How can school PR professionals best advance our role as communication leaders, demonstrate communication accountability and build understanding of communication as a core management function?

"School PR professionals are the storytellers and bridge-builders of our school districts. This is vital in shaping how our stakeholders perceive and connect with us. One of the most powerful ways we can advance our role as communication leaders is by ensuring that every voice is not only heard but valued. Day-to-day demands can make it easy for our organizations to lose sight of what our students, staff, families, and communities need and want. That’s where we step in, acting as the conscience of our organizations and championing those perspectives. By consistently listening, sharing information, and being transparent, we can build a foundation of trust. This foundation helps us align our efforts with the priorities and values of our stakeholders and creates an environment where everyone can be involved and informed. This approach doesn’t just enhance our leadership, it makes our districts—and communities—stronger."

What do you consider to be the major communication challenges facing districts/education organizations today, and what qualifications, skills and expertise will you offer as an Executive Board member to help NSPRA support members in addressing these issues?

"School districts and other educational organizations are navigating some rough waters right now. We’re dealing with communities that are more divided than ever and a general sense of frustration with government that often spills over into our schools. This makes our job as communicators even more difficult. As an Executive Board member, I bring a wealth of experience in turning these challenges into opportunities. I’ve spent years fostering community engagement and building positive relationships. My qualifications include a solid record in crisis communication and conflict resolution—skills that are critical in today’s climate. I’m also passionate about promoting inclusive practices that ensure every voice is heard and valued. I’m committed to helping NSPRA support its members by equipping them with the tools and strategies they need to tackle these issues and transform them into opportunities for growth and understanding."

NSPRA’s mission is to be the leader in developing professionals to communicate strategically, build trust and foster positive relationships in support of their school communities. How will you support this mission as an NSPRA leader?

"I wouldn’t be in school communications today without the incredible support of NSPRA! Its commitment to providing exceptional professional learning opportunities and fostering meaningful relationships has allowed me to thrive in this field. As an NSPRA leader, I’ll work tirelessly to provide every school communicator with access to the resources, support, and training they need to excel and make a difference in their school communities. By nurturing a supportive and collaborative environment, we can help each other manage challenges and celebrate successes. My commitment to NSPRA is rooted in a genuine passion for our work and a belief in the positive impact we can have on educational communities across the nation. I look forward to contributing to NSPRA’s efforts to advance its mission and will do my best to ensure every member feels supported and connected."
