Today the National School Public Relations Association is pleased to recognize the inaugural School Communicators Day on Friday, May 13. Last July, the NSPRA Executive Board unanimously voted to officially recognize School Communicators Day on the second Friday in May beginning in 2022.
The day is intended to recognize the critical work of school communicators around the country, including the more than 2,400 members of NSPRA. These public relations professionals practice two-way communications in an ethical and comprehensive way. They serve as an information liaison between school districts and their communities, help ensure meaningful parental and community involvement in schools, and act as strategic partners to education leaders in support of their districts’ missions and goals.
“School communicators work to benefit students by making sure their staff, families and communities know what they need to know and get included in the decision-making process,” said NSPRA President Nicole Kirby, APR. “Over the last two years, it was more clear than ever how indispensable transparent and effective communication is.”
School district leaders are encouraged to celebrate and recognize the communication professionals on their teams today. NSPRA has provided a School Communicators Day toolkit at www.nspra.org/school-communicators-day with easy-to-customize resources for superintendents and school boards.
“School public relations professionals devote a tremendous amount of time and effort to ensure their communications are top-notch,” said NSPRA Executive Director Barbara M. Hunter, APR. “Today we are proud to celebrate and recognize the crucial communications work done in schools, school districts and other education organizations every day.”
